Keratoacanthoma is a rapidly growing, ‘volcano’ – appearing dome-shaped nodule, 1 to 2 cm in diameter with a central crater. Found most commonly on sun exposed areas of the face in the elderly. It grows rapidly in size over 4-6 months, and then begins to regress over a year, sometimes leaving a scar. This lesions must be removed, as it usually appears as a squamous cell carcinoma, and therefore this must be ruled-out.
